Leng sadly found Musen dying and mourned for her passing. Their next mission is to eliminate Wolf and his Shepherd gang. Soon we'd see Leng being more of a brooder than a man of decisive action, as each of the major characters begin to reveal true intentions, centered around what it means to be sworn to loyalty and brotherhood, yet being in a fix when required to perform execute someone else's dirty intent. On the downside, though the main plot and characters engage, the supporting cast are all thinly sketched at best, the other guillotines in particular coming across as little more than daft thugs, meaning that the viewer barely notices when they start getting knocked off by Haidu, with no noticeable emotional impact. On a rainy night, Kotono confronts the samurais who have killed her father. Confused to why he was saved, Wolf did it out of mercy; to Leng's surprise, he found Musen as part of the village.
